DIY Light-Up Ghosts: An Easy and Affordable Halloween Decoration
These DIY light-up ghosts were so fun, so quick, and so easy to make! They instantly illuminate the room and make your space feel cozy, festive, and beautifully decorated without spending a ton of money.
The best part? You only need a few inexpensive supplies to make them!
What You’ll Need
- Tomato cages — I found ours at Walmart for a little over $3 each, and they were about 3 feet tall
- White fabric or old white sheets
- Black fabric
- White string lights
- Foam crafting balls
- Scissors
- Scotch Super-Hold Tape
How to Make Your Light-Up Ghosts
Start by placing a foam crafting ball at the top of the tomato cage to create the ghost’s head. If you need to, you can use a zip tie to secure the top portion of the tomato cage together, which can make the setup a little easier.
Next, take your white string lights and begin wrapping them around the tomato cage, working your way from the bottom all the way to the top. Try to spread the lights out evenly so your ghost will glow nicely once it’s finished.
Then, take your white fabric or an old white sheet and measure and cut it so that it fits over the tomato cage the way you’d like. I love using old sheets for projects like this because they work perfectly and can make this DIY even more affordable.
Now it’s time to give your ghost a face!
Take your black fabric and cut out circles for the eyes and mouth. You can make the face as simple or as spooky as you want. I used Scotch Super-Hold Tape to attach the eyes and mouth directly to the white fabric.
Scotch Super-Hold Tape is one of my favorite things to keep around for decorating. We use it to hang and secure so much of our seasonal décor, and it holds really well!
Once you’ve added the face, simply drape your fabric over the tomato cage, turn on the lights, and you have your very own glowing ghost!
The Coziest Halloween Glow
I absolutely love how these turned out. They’re such a simple DIY, but once you turn the lights on, they completely transform the space. The soft glow makes the room feel warm and cozy while still giving you that fun Halloween look.
And because the supplies are so inexpensive, you can easily make several ghosts to line a porch, hallway, living room, or Halloween party space.
Sometimes the simplest DIYs end up being my favorite, and these little light-up ghosts are definitely one of them!
